Bedroom Furniture And Decor: Tips and Ideas

The choice and range of bedroom furniture is vast and almost limitless. You may be pondering the best way to go about designing and creating your perfect bedroom? There are many points to consider; the theme, colour, light, ambience, how do I appease (or even better, pleasantly surprise, my other half) and budget, to name but a few. The great news is that you can approach this from any angle you want. Decide on what your priority is; do you want to create a room with an abundance of light? Perhaps you're seeking the illusion of additional space? Have you fallen in love with a single piece of furniture, and wish to decorate the rest of the room to complement or offset this item? Do you want to decorate according to a particular genre or era? Will the colour of the walls and floor dictate the theme and ambience of your bedroom?

An important point to consider is that you should not feel confined to buying matching bedroom sets. I recently sourced mahogany French style reproduction furniture with an oriental influence, which allowed me to furnish the room with additional contemporary and Persian pieces. The resulting effect is striking and unique without being overbearing. Oak, ash, mahogany and pine beds are a classic choice and timeless. The vast array of designs have been brought right up to date so you don't have to compromise between durability, or longevity, and style. French Style and painted bedroom furniture convey a sense of romance, which can easily be offset by pairing with darker or more contemporary pieces. I really would encourage you to create a scrapbook of your favourite pieces and bedroom styles, extracting different furniture designs from magazines and websites, and seeing how they go together as a whole. All my favourite rooms that I have designed have been comprised of bedroom furniture from different eras, genres and varying international influence.

Shades of grey are very fashionable at the moment, whether it's confined to the bedroom walls or a single piece such as an armchair (if you have space in your bedroom) or ultimately, an upholstered bed. Large dark wooden beds with contrasting light, crisp linen balanced with understated additional bedroom furniture are a firm favourite of mine. Perhaps you are considering using a brighter, bolder or darker colour on the walls but you are concerned that this will make the bedroom too dark? A top tip is to use high gloss paint, which reflects a great deal of light, bringing your room back to life. Why not match with lighter coloured furniture, floorboards or carpeting? Next on my project portfolio will be polished concrete floors, in a neutral, warm shade with a light rug in the middle of the room for warmth and to add texture to the room. This flooring option is cost effective, striking but complementary to any bedroom design and practical and light reflective. What more could you want? Underfloor heating perhaps...

I would strongly recommend using an online room planner to realise your ideas and bring your plans to life (you don't have to pay for these, and they're great fun to use!)
